| A.
Before inserting the FemCap |
|
To avoid interruption
of spontaneity and to ensure correct placement,
the FemCap MUST be inserted at least
15 minutes before any sexual arousal.
|
|
You
must always check the position of your cervix
before inserting the FemCap. To
find your cervix, squat and bear down and insert
your finger deep into your vagina. The cervix
feels like the tip of your nose, and its postition
varies according to the time of the month and
your body position.
This
step is very important because the cervix is
your target, and you must know where and how
deep you need to place the FemCap.
|
| B.
FemCap Insertion |
| Apply
a very small amount of spermicide about 1/4 tsp
in the rim of the FemCap... |
|
| ...and
spread it in thin layer over the outer brim, except
for the spots where your finger and thumb are
holding the cap (to prevent the cap from slipping
out of your grasp.) |
|
| Turn
the cap over and apply the bulk of spermicide
about 1/2 tsp in the groove between the brim and
the dome that will face into your vagina. |
|
| Insert
the squeezed, flattened cap into your vagina with
the bowl facing upward and the long brim entering
first. |
|
| Push
the FemCap down towards the
rectum and... |
 |
|
|
|
...then
downward and back as far as you can.
|
 |
|
|
| Make
sure the FemCap is pushed
all the way in and covers the cervix completely.
If FemCap is correctly
placed, a woman may rarely be aware of its presence
during her daily activities or during intercourse.
Men may rarely be aware of the FemCap
and it should not interfere with sexual pleasure.
|
 |
| Press
upwards on the strap and the dome of the FemCap
while squatting down. Continue this pressure for
at least ten seconds. |
 |
|
If
the FemCap is not covering the
cervix completely, either push it onto your
cervix, or remove it and reinsert it.
Check
to make sure that the FemCap
is not partway between the vaginal opening and
the cervix.
(Incorrect
position)
|
|
Check the position of the FemCap
and insert additional spermicide without removing
the cap prior to each repeated intercourse within
the next 48 hours.
|
| C.
FemCap Removal |
|
You
must wait at least six hours after your last
act of intercourse before removing the cap.
|
|
To
remove the cap, it is best to squat and bear
down.
This will bring the cap closer to your finger.

|
|
|
You
may rotate the FemCap in any direction
that is comfortable for you.

|
| Push
the tip of your finger against the dome of The
FemCap to dimple it.
This will break the suction and allow room for
your finger to fit between the dome and the removal
strap... |
|
| ...then
hook the removal strap with the tip of your finger
and... |
|
| ...slowly
and gently pull the Cap down and out of your vagina. |
|
|
The FemCap is designed with a brim to flare
up like an inverted funnel. This flaring causes
the vagina to grip over the FemCap to prevent
it from dislodging during intercourse.
Note: Few women who have never been pregnant
and happened to have short fingers may have
difficulty removing the FemCap by following
the above instructions.
For those women, we recommend the following:
Make a loop from a cotton ribbon and tie it
under one side of the removal strap according
to the three photographs below.

|
| Wash
the Cap thoroughly with antibacterial hand soap,
then rinse it with tap water. Allow the cap to
air dry or gently pat it dry with a clean, soft
towel and store the FemCap
in the plastic storage container provided. |
