Material

Made of one piece of silicone that heats and cools uniformly, allowing for autoclave sterilization.

Made of silicone and a steel wire in the rim, that heats differently.

Design

 

 

 

 

  • Is soft and conforms to the anatomy of the cervix and vagina and adapts to physiological changes during intercourse.
  • Does not cause any pressure on the vagina, cervix, or urethra.
  • Is designed with unique delivery system facing the vaginal opening that stores the spermicide and trap sperm, bacteria, and viruses as soon as they are deposited into the vagina.

The Diaphragm is a large cup-shaped device with metal wire in the rim. It does not adapt to physiological changes during intercourse.
The metal rim causes pressure on the vaginal walls and the urethra.

Spermicide placed in the bowl of the cup disrupts cervical cells, and can leak outside of the vagina.

Safety

The FemCap's removal strap eliminates the potential for fingernail abrasion during removal.

Removal can potentially cause
vaginal abrasions or puncture the rubber.

Size Selection

No measurement is required.
Small for women who never been pregnant,
Medium For women who have had abortion or Cesarean Section delivery
Large. For women have had vaginal delivery

Clinician time necessary to determine one
of several sizes, using crude, inaccurate measurements. 
Size needs to be changed if the woman
gains or loses 10 pounds or more.

Education Material

Multi-language instructional video available online and provided with each purchase.

Video is available, but rarely provided with the diaphragm.

UTI

Lower risk, of urinary tract infection UTI.

Higher risk UTI.

Duration of Use

Provides continuous protection for 48 hours.

Recommended for only 24-hour use.
